"Ed Sullivan's Rock 'n' Roll Classics - Chart Toppers, Vol. 1 - Hits of 1965-1967" Overview
On Sunday nights throughout the '50s and '60s, Ed Sullivan brought pop culture into America's living rooms with th e most influential show of its kind. If you made it there, you had it made because for the first time, the entire county was at home watching. During the course of the show's run, many of the early rock and roll legends were featured in career-defining p erformances. These cultural milestones have been compiled for Ed Sullivan's Rock 'n' Roll Classics, along with archival footage and narration for insight on the artists, their eras, and their classic appearances. Now seen with half a century of hindsight , it's clear Ed Sullivan was right--his was a "really big show."

"Ed Sullivan's Rock 'n' Roll Classics - Chart Toppers, Vol. 1 - Hits of 1965-1967" Specifications
Outstanding performances by an array of talent ranging from the Rolling Stones and the Animals to Lou Rawls and the Association are among the highlights of this, the first of nine volumes contained in the massive Ed Sullivan's Rock 'n' Roll Classics boxed set. Some of the 18 songs are in black and white, some in color; some are completely live, some (including two by the Mamas and the Papas) are totally lip-synced, and some are a combination of the two. In the end, what's good (like the Association's "Along Comes Mary" or the Stones' "Ruby Tuesday") is marvelous; what's not so good, is... well, calling Herman's Hermits' "I'm Henry the VIII, I Am" a "classic" is a bit of a stretch. On the other hand, for some viewers, hearing Sullivan introduce Sonny and Cher as "my little paisans" and the Supremes as "the girls" (he forgot the group's name) may alone be worth the price of admission. --Sam Graham
